About Kambo

Kambo is the secretion of the Phyllomedusa bicolor, the Giant Green Monkey Tree Frog of the Amazon rainforest. It has been used for centuries as part of the traditional ceremonial practices of indigenous Amazonian tribes, including the Matses, Katukina, and Mayoruna peoples.
It is not a psychedelic. It does not create visions or altered states of consciousness. It is a deeply physical, deeply cleansing ceremonial practice, and those who come to it describe it as unlike anything else they have encountered.
Kambo is not classified as a medicinal product in the United Kingdom. It is a legal ceremonial practice.

Educational note: The following section describes ongoing scientific research into the bioactive compounds found in Kambo. It is provided for educational purposes only and does not constitute a medical claim.
To date, sixteen bioactive peptides have been isolated from the Kambo secretion. These compounds have been of significant interest to researchers and pharmaceutical companies worldwide since the 1960s, with over 70 Kambo-related peptide patents registered primarily in the USA.
The peptides identified include dermorphin, deltorphin, phyllokinin, phyllomedusin, phyllocaerulein, sauvagine, dermaseptin, adenoregulin, and several others. Each has been the subject of ongoing scientific interest and independent research.
-
The secretion is a waxy substance that is harvested from the frog's skin and dried onto small wooden sticks. The frog is not harmed during harvesting, the Matses people, who harvest the secretion we work with, have done so respectfully for generations. The frog is released unharmed after harvesting.
The dried secretion is then rehydrated with water during your session and applied to the gates, small, superficial points on the skin.
The Ceremony
-
A Kambo ceremony at The Kambo Clinic is a held, structured experience. Claire leads every aspect of your session personally.
The ceremony opens with preparation and intention-setting. Small superficial points called gates are created on the skin, these are tiny, shallow points, not cuts. The Kambo is then applied to the gates and the experience begins within moments.
The Kambo application itself typically lasts 20 to 40 minutes. The remaining session time is dedicated to rest, integration, coaching, and nourishment, including a light meal provided by Claire. The full session lasts up to 4 hours.
-
The experience begins within moments of application. Most people feel an immediate and intense wave of warmth or heat moving through the body. The face may flush. The heart rate increases. There is often nausea, and most people purge, this is a completely natural and expected part of the ceremony.
Some people experience shaking, emotional release, tears, laughter, or a deep sense of letting go.
Every experience is individual. Every session is different. Claire remains present with you throughout every moment.
-
Yes. The purge is not an unpleasant side effect, it is the body's natural response and is considered an important part of the ceremonial experience. Most clients describe it as a release rather than an ordeal.
What follows is consistently described as one of the most profound feelings of clarity, lightness, and peace many clients have ever experienced.
-
Yes. For a full Kambo ceremony, you are asked to fast for at least 12 hours before your session. A small cup of water or tea on the morning of your session is fine.
For One Dot Kambo sessions, fasting is only 4 hours, making it easy to fit into your day.
Full preparation instructions are included in your booking confirmation. Claire will also contact you personally before your first session.
-
The Kambo Clinic provides everything you need, bottled water, yoga mats, bolsters, blankets, and your own dedicated bucket for the purge. You do not need to bring anything for the ceremony itself.
For 1:1 sessions, you are welcome to bring your own playlist if you would prefer to listen to your own music during the experience.
-
Yes. You will be able to drive yourself home after your session. You will also be able to go to work the next day. Most people feel clear, grounded, and well by the time they leave The Kambo Clinic.
Some clients feel tender or tired for a day or two after their first session before the shift becomes clear, this is entirely normal. Claire will advise you personally based on how your body responds.
-
Most people are completely fine and do not need to take time off. Some feel energised almost immediately after their session. Others feel quieter or more tender for a day or two, and then experience a noticeable uplift.
You will be able to work the following day.
Claire will advise you personally throughout your journey with Kambo.

Some people experience a release during their Kambo session — tears, laughter, grief, or a deep sense of clarity. This is considered a normal and welcomed part of the process.
What makes Kambo particularly remarkable here is that the release happens somatically, inside the body. Stuck emotion and energy leave without you having to remember where they came from, relive the experience, or think about it after the session. The emotion moves through and out. No story required.
Every 1:1 session at The Kambo Clinic includes up to one hour of personal coaching with Claire within your appointment time. You are not left to process alone.
If you have a history of severe mental health challenges, please contact Claire before booking so she can advise you personally.
