Rapé (Hapé) Ceremonies
Ancient tradition. Modern intention.
Rapé (pronounced ha-peh) is a traditional Amazonian ceremonial snuff made from finely powdered sacred plants, often including Nicotiana rustica, a variety of tobacco that has been used ceremonially by Indigenous tribes for generations.
Traditionally administered using a pipe called a Kuripe or Tepi, Rapé is used as a ceremonial practice to encourage stillness, focus and connection. Today, many people choose to experience Rapé as part of their personal spiritual practice, meditation and personal development.
At The Kambo Clinic, we honour the traditions from which Rapé originates while combining them with modern therapeutic and metaphysical techniques to create a carefully guided ceremonial experience.
Our signature Metaphysical Rapé Journey is designed to support subconscious reprogramming, identity shifts, belief recoding and manifesting by helping you align your beliefs, emotions, energy and sense of self with the future you want to create.

In Person or Online
The Metaphysical Rapé Journey is available both in person at our Beckenham clinic and online via Zoom.
In Person
If you're new to Rapé or would like Claire to administer the ceremony for you, we recommend attending in person. Your session includes the traditional Rapé ceremony followed by your bespoke guided metaphysical journey.
Online via Zoom
If you're already experienced with Rapé and have an established personal practice, you can also experience the Metaphysical Rapé Journey from the comfort of your own home.
For online sessions, you'll need to provide your own Rapé (Hapé) and be confident using your own Kuripe or receiving the medicine safely with someone you trust.
This option is intended for experienced Rapé practitioners only and is not suitable for first-time participants.
Your online ceremony follows the same personalised process. Before your session, you'll complete an intention questionnaire, allowing Claire to create a bespoke guided script tailored to your goals, whether that's manifesting, identity transformation, subconscious belief work or personal growth.
The ceremony is guided live by Claire via Zoom, bringing together her expertise in subconscious transformation, Religious Science, metaphysical techniques and more than 15 years of experience as a professional presenter and voice-over artist to create a deeply personal and immersive journey.
What is Rapé (Hapé)?
Rapé (pronounced ha-peh) is a traditional Amazonian ceremonial snuff made from finely powdered sacred plants, most commonly Nicotiana rustica, a variety of tobacco that has been used ceremonially by Indigenous tribes for generations.
Each tribe has its own unique blend, carefully prepared using Nicotiana rustica alongside the ash of selected trees and other traditional plants. These recipes have been passed down through generations, with each blend holding its own ceremonial purpose and cultural significance.
Rapé is traditionally administered by blowing the powder into the nostrils using either a Kuripe, a self-applicator, or a Tepi, a pipe used by another person during ceremony.
Within Indigenous Amazonian traditions, Rapé is regarded as a sacred ceremonial practice rather than a recreational substance. It is often used before prayer, meditation, hunting, healing ceremonies and important community gatherings to encourage presence, focus and connection.
Today, people around the world incorporate Rapé into their own ceremonial and personal development practices. While every individual's experience is unique, many people choose Rapé as an opportunity to slow down, become more present, reconnect with themselves and set a clear intention for the journey ahead.
What Does Rapé (Hapé) Feel Like?
Every person's experience is unique, and no two ceremonies feel exactly the same.
Immediately after Rapé is administered, you may notice a strong sensation in your nose and sinuses. Your eyes may water, your nose may run and you may feel an urge to take a few deep breaths as your body adjusts. These initial sensations usually settle within a few minutes.
As the ceremony unfolds, many people describe feeling calmer, quieter and more present. Some experience greater mental clarity, while others notice emotions, memories or insights naturally coming into their awareness. This is why intention is such an important part of the ceremony.
Some people feel deeply grounded. Others feel energised, focused or emotionally moved. There is no right or wrong experience.
Occasionally, people may yawn, cough, cry or experience a brief wave of nausea. In rare cases, some people may purge by vomiting. Within traditional Amazonian practices, this is often viewed as part of the ceremonial process. However, not purging is completely normal and does not mean the ceremony has been any less meaningful.
At The Kambo Clinic, you'll remain comfortably seated throughout your ceremony while Claire gently guides you through your personalised metaphysical journey, allowing you to relax into the experience in a safe and supportive environment.
Rather than trying to achieve a particular feeling, we simply invite you to arrive with an open mind, a clear intention and a willingness to observe whatever unfolds.
The History of Rapé (Hapé)
Rapé has been used for hundreds, and likely thousands, of years by indigenous tribes including the Yawanawá, Katukina, Huni Kuin, Kaxinawá and Nukini peoples of the Brazilian and Peruvian Amazon.
While each tradition is unique, Rapé has historically been used before hunting, during prayer, before ceremonies, in community gatherings and as part of daily spiritual practices.
Within these traditions, Rapé is viewed as a way of helping individuals become more present, focused and connected to themselves, their community and the natural world.
Today, many of these traditions continue to be preserved and shared by indigenous communities.
What Does the Research Say?
While scientific research into Rapé is still limited, many people describe entering a quieter, more reflective state following a ceremony. Rather than constantly analysing, planning or worrying, they often report feeling more present, focused and connected to their intention. At The Kambo Clinic, we use this opportunity to guide a bespoke metaphysical journey designed to help you explore your beliefs, identity and the future you want to create.
Rapé is a ground tobacco snuff, traditionally made from Nicotiana rustica combined with the ash of specific plants.
The ash is not simply a filler. It raises the pH of the powder, which increases the amount of nicotine available for absorption through the nasal lining. This is why the effects of Rapé are felt so quickly.
Scientific analysis of Rapé samples has confirmed this process. Nicotine content varies widely between blends, generally ranging from around 6 to 48 milligrams per gram, depending on how the Rapé is made.
Hand-made blends using stronger ash tend to contain higher levels of the more readily absorbed form of nicotine.
This means potency can differ significantly from one maker to another.
Some Rapé blends also include additional plant material alongside the tobacco. A small number of studies have identified other alkaloids of scientific interest within certain blends, although this varies by lineage and has not been widely researched.
Most of what is currently understood scientifically about Rapé relates to tobacco and nicotine more broadly. Research into Rapé specifically remains limited.
This distinction is important. Rapé is not designed to create a psychedelic experience. It is designed to bring the mind and body into a clear, focused and grounded state, one that can support the deeper work that follows.
It is this grounded, focused state that forms the foundation of the Metaphysical Rapé Journey. Once the mind is clear and the body is settled, it becomes possible to do deeper, more intentional work.
Is It Psychoactive in the Psychedelic Sense?
No.
Rapé is not a psychedelic. It produces a brief, intense sensation followed by a grounded sense of calm and focus. As a tobacco-based medicine, nicotine plays a central role in these effects.
Within many indigenous traditions, Rapé is not used to create an altered state. It is instead used to sharpen presence, ground the body and restore mental clarity.
Rapé is traditionally understood as a medicine that clears rather than one that opens indiscriminately.
This distinction is important. Rapé is not designed to create a psychedelic experience. It is designed to bring the mind and body into a clear, focused and grounded state, one that can support the deeper work that follows.
Is a Rapé (Hapé) Ceremony Right For You?
People choose to experience Rapé for many different reasons.
Some come seeking greater presence.
Others want to reconnect with themselves, strengthen their mindset or create space for personal reflection.
Our ceremonies may appeal to those who wish to:
• Develop a stronger manifestation practice
• Explore subconscious beliefs
• Build confidence and self-worth
• Create healthier habits
• Feel more grounded
• Deepen meditation or spiritual practice
• Gain clarity around life's next chapter
Every ceremony begins with a consultation to ensure the experience is appropriate for you and your individual circumstances.
Preparing for Your Rapé Ceremony
Preparing well for your ceremony helps you arrive feeling calm, comfortable and fully present.
Eat Lightly
We recommend eating a light meal around three to four hours before your ceremony and avoiding large or heavy meals immediately beforehand.
Rapé contains Nicotiana rustica, a traditional ceremonial tobacco that is naturally high in nicotine. While some people assume it's best to fast completely, taking Rapé on a completely empty stomach may increase the likelihood of feeling light-headed or nauseous.
A light meal a few hours before your session, together with staying well hydrated throughout the day, is generally the most comfortable way to prepare. Although some people may experience temporary nausea or, more rarely, purge during the ceremony, arriving comfortably nourished and hydrated helps support a positive experience.
Avoid Alcohol and Recreational Drugs
Please avoid alcohol and recreational drugs for at least 24 hours before your appointment, as they may affect your experience and your ability to engage fully with the ceremony.
Reduce Caffeine
If possible, limit caffeine for a few hours before your session. Arriving in a calmer state can make it easier to settle into the ceremony and your guided journey.
Set Your Intention
Before your ceremony, you'll complete a short intention questionnaire. This helps Claire understand what you'd like to release, create or move towards.
Using your responses, Claire writes a bespoke guided script specifically for your ceremony, making every Metaphysical Rapé Journey unique.
Wear Comfortable Clothing
Choose comfortable clothing that allows you to relax. We recommend avoiding strong perfumes or fragrances and removing anything that may distract you from being fully present.
Arrive With An Open Mind
Every ceremony is different.
Some people experience deep stillness. Others gain clarity, emotional insight or simply enjoy an hour away from the noise of everyday life.
There is no right or wrong experience. The most important thing you can bring is curiosity, openness and a willingness to explore whatever unfolds.
