Sananga Journey

Ancient tradition. Modern intention. Clear vision.

Sananga is a traditional Amazonian ceremonial practice that has been used by Indigenous tribes for generations. Prepared from the roots and bark of specific Amazonian plants, Sananga is traditionally applied as eye drops during ceremonial practices to encourage clarity, focus and presence.

Today, many people choose to experience Sananga as part of their personal development, meditation or spiritual practice.

At The Kambo Clinic, we honour the traditions from which Sananga originates while combining it with modern therapeutic and metaphysical techniques to create a carefully guided ceremonial experience for clarity, subconscious transformation, identity shifts and conscious creation.

Why Do People Choose Sananga?

People choose Sananga for many different reasons.

For Indigenous Amazonian communities, Sananga has traditionally been used before hunting, ceremony, meditation and prayer. Many tribes believe it helps sharpen awareness, strengthen focus, clear heavy energy and deepen one's connection with the natural and spiritual worlds.

Today, people often include Sananga within their personal wellbeing or spiritual practice for reasons such as:

  • Creating a greater sense of mental clarity.

  • Becoming more present and focused.

  • Supporting meditation and mindfulness practices.

  • Encouraging emotional release.

  • Letting go of limiting beliefs and old patterns.

  • Creating space for reflection and personal growth.

  • Deepening spiritual practices and ceremonial work.

  • Reconnecting with themselves during times of transition.

Every person's experience is unique, and people choose Sananga for many different personal and ceremonial reasons.

Traditional Indigenous Beliefs

Many Indigenous Amazonian tribes regard Sananga as far more than an eye preparation.

Traditionally, it has been used to help clear physical, emotional and spiritual distractions before important activities. Some tribes believe Sananga helps remove what is sometimes described as "panema", a state of heaviness, low motivation or blocked energy that may affect a person's wellbeing, focus or success.

Within these traditions, Sananga is often viewed as a ceremonial tool for cleansing, strengthening awareness and restoring balance.

At The Kambo Clinic, we honour these traditional beliefs while recognising that they are cultural and spiritual perspectives rather than scientifically established medical facts.

What Is Sananga?

Sananga is a traditional preparation made from plants belonging to the Tabernaemontana family, which grow throughout the Amazon rainforest.

For generations, Indigenous communities have incorporated Sananga into ceremonial life. Different tribes have developed their own traditions and methods of preparation, with Sananga often being used before hunting, prayer, meditation or other important ceremonial practices.

Today, many people explore Sananga as a ceremonial practice that encourages presence, reflection and mental clarity.

The History of Sananga

Sananga has been used for generations by several Indigenous Amazonian communities, including the Kaxinawá (Huni Kuin), Yawanawá and Matsés peoples.

Traditionally, it formed part of ceremonial life and was often used before important activities that required focus, awareness and connection with the natural world.

Although modern Sananga ceremonies have evolved, many practitioners continue to approach the practice with respect for its Indigenous origins and cultural significance.

What Does the Research Say?

Sananga has been used ceremonially by Indigenous Amazonian communities for generations, with traditions passed down through lived experience rather than modern clinical research.

While scientific studies into Sananga are still in their early stages, many people who participate in traditional and contemporary ceremonies describe experiencing a greater sense of clarity, presence and mental focus following the initial intensity of the drops. Others speak of feeling emotionally lighter, more grounded or deeply connected to their ceremonial intention.

Although these experiences are personal and cannot be guaranteed, they help explain why Sananga continues to be valued within both Indigenous traditions and modern ceremonial practice.

At The Kambo Clinic, we honour Sananga as a sacred ceremonial tradition, combining it with a personalised metaphysical journey designed to support reflection, subconscious transformation and conscious creation.

What Does Sananga Feel Like?

Every person's experience is unique.

Immediately after the drops are applied, most people experience an intense burning or stinging sensation in the eyes.

This is expected and usually lasts for between one and five minutes before gradually subsiding.

As the intensity settles, many people describe feeling calmer, mentally clearer and more present.

Some experience an emotional release.

Others simply enjoy the feeling of stillness that often follows.

Throughout the ceremony, Claire remains with you, guiding and supporting you through the experience before leading your personalised metaphysical journey.
